  • Fetal-Maternal Medicine & Prenatal Screening

The Department of Fetal-Maternal Medicine & Prenatal Screening is a program offered by GENESIS that aims to monitor pregnancies and provide preventive care to ensure the birth of a healthy baby. To better monitor the development of the fetus from conception to delivery, we have built a Model Center with the most advanced medical technology available both in terms of machines and software, which are used by qualified Physicians who conduct all the cutting-edge and valid diagnostic tests.

The Department uses the technologies of ultrasound, biochemical markers, and genetics to provide the full range of invasive and non-invasive prenatal diagnostics, depending on the various stages of pregnancy and the age of the fetus.

Gynecologists who specialize in ultrasound tests and have received accreditation from the global organization FMF staff the department, ensuring the high quality of services. Moreover, the Department has:

High-definition ultrasound devices and 4D color imaging:

    • GE Voluson E8 with VCDA: Excellence in Fetal Heart Imaging
    • GE Voluson 730 Expert
    • ASTRAIA -special statistical monitoring software
    • KRYPTOR Biochemical Analyzer
    • Separate Secretariat, Front Desk and examination areas
    • Flexible opening hours

Promotional Package for the Department of Fetal-Maternal Medicine

The EOPYY (Greek National Organization for Health Care Services Provision) developments and the economic crisis were taken into consideration as GENESIS created the following Promotional Package:

Women who undergo complete ultrasound testing at GENESIS are entitled to a room upgrade for delivery, namely: either a) 1st Trimester Ultrasound / Nuchal Translucency (NT) Ultrasound & PAPP-A and Level II Ultrasound or b) Doppler combined with one of the above ultrasounds.

    Promotional Package for Doppler U/S

In addition, women who undergo Doppler U/S and have already performed in GENESIS:

    1. the 1st trimester Ultrasound / Nuchal Translucency (NT) Ultrasound & PAPP-A and
    2. Level II Ultrasound will be charged €80 instead of €135 for a Doppler U/S, through a relative discount.

In case of undergoing only one of the two ultrasounds during the previous trimesters, the charge for the Doppler U/S will be €110.

The fees listed above cover Fetal Development and Fetal Blood Flow assessments. This is a general ultrasound assessment of good fetal development, which is performed during the 3rd trimester of pregnancy (32 weeks). During this imaging study, your doctor will evaluate some important parameters, including:

    • measurement of the size and estimation of the weight of the fetus
    • measurement of amniotic fluid volume
    • position and presentation of the placenta
    • assessment of fetal movements – biophysical profile
    • heart rate evaluation – differentiation
    • fetal blood flow (Doppler U/S): in the Uterine Artery (Rt & Lt), in the Umbilical Artery, and in the Middle Cerebral Artery

Regarding PAPP-A, this is covered by EOPYY.

The first FMF-accredited analyst, KRYPTOR, runs the test and results return within two hours (working days).

    Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing

GENESIS proceeded with a significant price reduction, which is now €400 for a singleton pregnancy and €650 for a twin pregnancy, acknowledging the value of Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (Veracity tests).

Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing is a new technique for identifying chromosomal defects in the developing fetus, such as Trisomy 21 (Down syndrome), Trisomy 18 (Edwards syndrome), Trisomy 13 (Patau syndrome), and Monosomy X (Turner syndrome), by sampling maternal blood in the 10th week of pregnancy.

The Hospital will perform an amniocentesis at no additional cost (except for doctor’s fees) to the expectant mother in the event that the fetus is found positive for trisomy.

    Useful Info

In the brochure-file attached, you’ll find useful details about the tests and ultrasounds the department conducts.

FMF: The Associate Physicians who work in the Department have been properly trained and certified by the UK Fetal Medicine Foundation for the conduction of ultrasounds. The requirement for lifelong training and evaluation in order to maintain their FMF ultrasound license ensures our professionals’ high level of education.

ASTRAIA: The statistical program, which was created by renowned scientists in the field of Fetal Diagnostics, aims to provide standardized terminology and valid statistical evaluation by utilizing the most recent findings in science as well as data from dependable clinical studies. Its upgrading is overseen and controlled by a board with a worldwide scientific representation.

KRYPTOR: It is a biochemical analyzer built on the TRACE (Time Resolved Amplified Cryptate Emission) technology, which was developed as a result of French chemist Jean-Marie Lehn’s Nobel Prize–winning research. The above automated method ensures that the analyzed concentration is accurately determined. In the 1st trimester of pregnancy, it ensures safe and remarkably accurate results for the quantification of free hCG and PAPP-A protein.
