The hematologist deals with\u00a0hematopoiesis<\/strong>, the disorders of blood cells (white and red blood cells and platelets) as well as with the disorders of the mechanisms that make our blood clot or make our body bleed, i.e. the disorders of\u00a0hemostasis.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hemopoiesis: <\/strong>is the most important continuous process that takes place in the human body. It is the process of producing mature blood cells from precursor cell forms. Mature blood cells have a short life span and are not able to divide, so their continuous replacement by hematopoietic organs is necessary. An adult produces about 100 billion cells\/day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hemostasis<\/strong>: a physiological reaction to local vascular damage, designed to stop bleeding. Hemostasis is divided into primary, the mechanism of coagulation and the mechanism of fibrinolysis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hematologist and Women<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Women have a special relationship with the hematologist because at all stages of their life -development, menarche, reproductive age, menopause- the hematological and hemostatic balance changes, adapting to the needs of the organism. Let us not forget that iron deficiency anemia (the most common type of anemia) affects women by a large majority (20:1), while vascular thrombosis after hormone use occurs almost exclusively in women<\/p>\n\n\n\n
