Department of Endoscopy
The Department of Endoscopy of the General Hospital GENESIS offers modern endoscopic services, supported by spearhead technology and a specialized medical team, dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of digestive diseases with high standards of safety and comfort.
The department of endoscopy is located on the 1st floor of GENESIS and is fully equipped with modern precision machines. The procedures are performed by experienced gastroenterologists with the support of specialized medical staff, committed to providing excellent care.

The main services offered include, among others, the following:
- Gastroscopy (or endoscopy of the upper digestive tract): is an examination that allows direct observation of the inner wall (mucosa) of the oesophagus, stomach and the first part of the small intestine (duodenum). The advantages of this examination over other imaging methods are the direct visual contact of the lesion and the possibility of taking biopsies or therapeutic intervention.
- Colonoscopy (or endoscopy of the lower digestive tract): is an examination that allows direct visual inspection of the inner wall (mucosa) of the colon and a limited length of the small intestine (ileum terminal part). Depending on the indication, the examination may need to be limited to the rectum – so it is called a rectoscopy – or it may need to go as far as the left colonic flexure (left colonoscopy). The examination is divided into diagnostic and therapeutic.
- Polypectomy: Polyps are often found in the colon, so they require resection because of the potential for a significant proportion of them to develop into cancer. Endoscopic removal is performed in various ways through colonoscopy (biopsy forceps, polypectomy loop, hot biopsy), chosen according to the size of the polyp.
ERCP: A specialized procedure to diagnose and treat conditions in the bile ducts and pancreas, such as bile duct stones and bile duct obstruction.
In the Gastroenterology Department, the patient can undergo without any inconvenience, all the diagnostic tests required for the diagnosis and treatment of his/her problem. Endoscopic examinations are usually performed after intravenous administration of drugs that reduce anxiety (“intoxication”), making endoscopies extremely comfortable.
